the stub end of 280 in san francisco. mayor ed lee is talking about it with hopes of creating a new neighborhood and speeding up the arrival of high-speed rail service downtown. the idea is to knock down i-280 before 16th street - eliminating the ramps both at sixth and brannan streets and at fourth and king streets. it would be replaced by a street-level boulevard. the plan also calls for clearing out the adjacent rail yard to make way for a high-speed rail line. >> if you drive a toyota prius or a honda civic hybrid, there are still *thousands of green carpool stickers available. the stickers allow drivers to legally drive solo in california diamond lanes. just over nine-thousand green decals have been issued, which is well below the cap of 40-thousand. the carpool sticker program will end january 1, 2015, and its unclear whether it will be extended. while future exploratorium field trips will take place at the museum's new home at pier 15 in san francisco, one group of students will take over the recently vacated space in the palace of fine arts for an entire school year. the to

his identity as 61-year-old guy kleess of san francisco. according to the california board of pilot commissioners in, 2009, kleess ran aground a 550-foot cargo ship in sacramento that same year crashing a 600-foot cargo ship into a catwalk in stockton. and in 2010, he was at fault when a tugboat ran aground in the richmond harbor. the board chief says these incidents are minor and the pilot is held in high regard. as far as the vessel, that will stay there until they determine the next steps in the investigation and the whole process could take months. cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> governor jerry brown is challenging a court order to reduce the state's prison population. he announced he filed a motion to overturn the june deadline. he says further reductions in prison populations would endanger the public. the governor says that state has a plan for early release but doesn't like it. >> rereleasing prisoners of serious dangerous crimes is not what the people of california have expressed through initiative through their legislative representati

commissioners who didn't have to suffer through the acronyms and all the details -- all of the san francisco project that needed to be the financial constraint portion of the plan are in there. it is an important milestone. they can continue to seek federal funds and approvals from the federal government. we also have project specific wins, two to highlight, mtc naming the downtown extension of caltrans, as two regional priorities. 500 million committed to the transit performance initiative. this is super important. something that tilly helped generate advocacy. this will allow investment in the urban corridor to make our existing transit infrastructure their work better, trying to identify bart and muni project that will provide more reliable and faster service. also the recent update funds, san francisco transportation plan. this helped develop the prop k expenditure plan. hitting on the ground. it is being done in parallel with the regional transportation plan; the regional transportation plan is giving us feedback and we are providing feedback to both the current plan in the next

to figure out what happened on san francisco bay. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is on treasure island with some new information about the man in control of the ship that hit the bay bridge yesterday morning. >> reporter: good morning. that pilot is in the hot seat today as that tanker you can see behind me is staying put as the coast guard continues its investigation. this morning that pilot will be face to face with investigators pending the results of a drug test. that tanker was on the way to sea when did hit a fender at the bridge around 6:30 yesterday afternoon. visibility as a quarter mile with fog. no signs of a spill, everybody was safe. caltrans engineers responded but found no significant damage to the bay bridge. >> this is just a scrape to the bridge. >> reporter: the fender acted like a bumper and caltrans says they will replace 40 feet of it but the question is, how did this happen in the first place? coast guard will be meeting with the pilot in a few hours. the "san jose mercury news" identifies him as guy kleess of san francisco.

on his mind right now. he's got this big situation going on here in san francisco. he wants his name cleared of any wrongdoing. and yesterday, crabtree voluntarily met with san francisco police before he boarded a mid-afternoon flight to atlanta. police say the sexual assault allegation involves crabtree inside a san francisco hotel early sunday morning, the day after the 49ers beat the green bay packers. crabtree was not detained or arrested. this is what his lawyer had to say today. he released this statement saying, "on friday, january 18, 2013, michael crabtree voluntarily met with san francisco police department and provided a statement. michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout the investigation out of respect and integrity for the process. we have no further comment at this time." as you mentioned earlier, he did not talk to any reporters since the news came out. chances are he will talk after the nfc championship game tomorrow. we're not for sure exactly if he will talk regarding this case. crabtree is expected to play against the falc
